Bill - those sound like inevitable controls being put in place. In particular I like the idea of voting or some form of intelligent crowd sourcing to select speakers in the main room. Some of the most brilliant people are either too humble or modest to push to the front of a barcamp style podium land-rush. Your solution of doing part of the selection barcamp style and part based on the interestingness of proposals is sound.

But of course there is the little detail of how to execute those ideas. I wish you luck with that! Maybe ask Hugh with SXSW if the panelpicker app is available for you?

Bill, I'll check into seeing if I can write up something or maybe have James write up a panel picker script if the SXSW is not available. It won't be gorgeous but it will work....

Thanks for the comment. We're working with Chris Bucchere of The Social Collective ( http://www.thesocialcollective.com/ ) who built the social software for SXSW next year. He's working on integrating the voting into our upcoming BIL Community.

[...] First, we should make it clear that anyone will be able to show up and give a talk the day of the conference. That said, we learned some things from the last BIL Conference that we feel needs fixing (more information on my blog). [...]
