Don't Let 2009 Be A Timequake

Kurt Vonnegut wrote a book about a Timequake, where everyone had to relive the past 10 years on autopilot, without free will to change it. Don’t live your life on autopilot – use randomness to keep things interesting.

Scaling Emergence

Unconferences are amazing experiences, but can they scale? This is a problem we’ve been wrestling with while planning BIL 2009.

My Oxford Experience

This summer I was lucky enough to study philosophy at Oxford. I had some amazing discussions, spent time with a very diverse and interesting group of people, and enjoyed some of the best food I’ve ever eaten.

In London

I’ve been in London for the past week. I love it here, and I might be living here next summer (either here or Sydney, Australia). I haven’t taken my camera out much or done the tourist thing since I did that last time I was here. Mostly I’ve just been walking around the city, hanging [...]

Week at the lake

I’m up at Lake Travis for the week. I was hoping to go out wakeboarding, but the lake is up so high that they’ve closed it. Here’s a shot of our park – notice the swings in the background. The driving range at the golf course is completely underwater, so we weren’t able to warm [...]

Lago Vista

I was up in Lago Vista, which is on Lake Travis (near Austin), for the past week. My laptop died so I wasn’t able to process any of the photos I took while I was up there. Now that I’m back at work I was able to take a look at them, and posted a [...]

Cold Easter

A few photos I took this Easter (more here). It was actually snowing for a while, which is a first for Easter here in Austin. I went down to the lake to take a few photos because it looked surreal.

Spring Break and Summer Plans

A lot of people have been asking if I’m going to SXSW this year. And while I wish I was, I’ll be in Colorado skiing while everyone else is discussing Web 2.0, social networks and the future of the web. When we made the ski trip arrangements I didn’t know it was the same week [...]

Subject to Fits

Brittany and I went to see Subject to Fits over at the Alley Theatre in Houston this Saturday. It was a great play based on Dostoevsky’s “The Idiot” (I’m not going to write a full review, the Houston Chronicle did a great job of that). They say you don’t need to have read the book [...]
