Subject to Fits

Tickets to Subject to Fits

Brittany and I went to see Subject to Fits over at the Alley Theatre in Houston this Saturday. It was a great play based on Dostoevsky’s “The Idiot” (I’m not going to write a full review, the Houston Chronicle did a great job of that). They say you don’t need to have read the book to see the play – it stands up on its own – and I agree; but I’ve read through half of the book and that made it a lot easier to understand.

The play was basically what is left in Mr. Montgomery’s (the playwright) head after reading The Idiot. Like the beginning of the play, it was really 5 different parts of the book all put together – like how after reading a book parts of it all blend together. It also had some memorable quotes from the book, like (and this isn’t a direct quote, I don’t remember the exact words):

Natasha: Do you think life is overly joyful?

Myskin: I find it rather normal, for I have nothing else to compare it to.

I thought it was a fun play and hopefully I’ll have time to finish the book soon.
