ROCO Houston had a beautiful website, but it had been built with static HTML. They had to hire a developer every time they wanted to add or edit the site’s content.
I was hired to duplicate the exact design and functionality, but using WordPress and Genesis. Some key features include:
- Creation of a custom child theme for Genesis that matches the old site perfectly. I built it to take advantage of the Page Layouts feature of Genesis, so on any page they can choose how many columns to display and their order.
- An Events post type with it’s own categorical structure (Event Types), the ability to be featured on the homepage, and a shortcode to list events of a certain type on specific pages (example).
- A People post type with its own categorical structure (Roles), the ability to be featured on the homepage, and a widget for displaying all the people sorted by their roles in the sidebar (example).
- Migration of their old blog from Blogger to WordPress and integrating it into the site.

From the Client
We had an html site that we liked, but it was difficult and expensive to update as often as we needed. Bill immediately understood our needs, and redeveloped the entire site in WordPress. The new site does everything we need it to and is easily updated by non-technical, inhouse staff. The entire project was done in less three weeks, on time, and on budget.
Bill is excellent at understanding a client’s needs, setting expectations, and delivering a no-surprises final website. His technical expertise is beyond competent, as he developed custom plugins to achieve specific effects we wanted in our site, and provided documentation that will allow us to maintain it ongoing. Bill is smart, responsive, conscientious, and professional. All projects should be as enjoyable and successful as this one!
