In addition to building a theme that looks just like the provided design, the contact form is a highly customized version of Gravity Forms, a premium form plugin.

When we decided to give the Learfield Sports website a much-needed make-over, we knew we wanted a great custom design… and WordPress for the CMS. We’d had great experiences with StudioPress themes running on the Genesis platform so I called Brain Gardner [the founder of StudioPress] and asked him if he’d do the back-end development for us. I think I might have said something like, “Money is no object.” Brian immediately replied, “I’ve got someone better,” and put us in touch with Bill Erickson.

The project has been on time and on budget. As we came up with (endless) tweaks and changes and questions, Bill was incredibly responsive (and patient). I don’t think he ever took more than a few hours (often only a few minutes) to take care of a request. Furthermore, Bill built functionality into the site that we didn’t know we needed, while teach me a few tricks I can use going forward.

Of the hundreds of development projects I’ve worked on in the last dozen years, this one has been the smoothest, due in no small part to Bill.

• Pixel perfect theme conversion, customizing the Genesis framework to match their provided design for a seamless transition between corporate website and blog.
• Development of a jQuery dropdown that appears at the top of the screen when you are 3/4 or more down the page. The text of this dropdown is editable by the client in the WordPress admin area.

• Posts are categorized by Category (Burger, Pizza…) and City (San Diego, Orange County…). Posts can be viewed on the homepage (all categories and cities), category pages, city pages, and category + city pages.
• I built a responsive navigation system.  If you’re on the Burgers category page and you select “San Diego” from the menu, it takes you to San Diego Burgers. If you’re on the homepage (all cities), selecting “Burgers” from the menu takes you to the Burgers category page (burger posts from all cities).
• Created a custom metabox to collect post metadata: ratings, address…. It is then displayed at the top of the post.
• A Google Map is dynamically generated based on the freeform address field.
